5 Things You Need to Know About #bsbvegas

With only one sleep to go until general tickets go on sale for BSB’s ‘Larger Than Life’ Las Vegas show, we checked in with AJ to get the lowdown on what you need to know about the most epic show The Strip will ever see…

Production

It’s go big or go home in Sin City! “Our biggest tour ever was a toss up between Black & Blue and Millennium and we want to beat that,” says AJ. “This show is no-holds-barred.

“We’re about to have a production meeting with Rich & Tone, who are going to team up with us again for the production, directing and staging side of the show. It’s going to be epic.”

Queen

If AJ gets his way, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” will also feature in the concert.

“I was really inspired by the Suicide Squad soundtrack,” he says. “Panic at the Disco remade the song for that and they killed it. Vocally, that song would take people back to what fans know, which is that we are all about the five-part harmonies. I recently mixed that track into ‘Larger Than Life’ on my laptop and even though it wasn’t the best mix, it could be really cool. Not saying it’s going to happen, but I’m going to suggest it to the fellas.”

Setlist

As for the rest of the set list, while we may be treated to some solo or acoustic numbers, AJ says the focus will be on BSB’s greatest hits.
“Nick just asked me, ‘Hey, do you think we should do one or two new songs in this Vegas show?’ and I’m like, ‘Honestly? No.’

“Because even if the album was out and the fans knew the songs, for this generation of bachelorette parties, birthday parties, honeymooners and girls’ and guys’ weekends who want to come and see Backstreet Boys, the hits are what it’s all about. That being said if the album is done – and remember, we’re on Backstreet time – maybe we’ll throw in one new song. I have no idea until we finish the record and talk more about what this show is going to be creatively.”

The boys will still tour!

If we don’t get treated to new music live in Vegas, then fear not – the boys still want to take their new record around the world and they’ve already made sure that Vegas is cool with it.

“I said to the fellas, ‘Hypothetically, what if, after the first nine shows Vegas says, ‘We want to book you for a two-year residency.’ What do we do?’”

“So we asked Live Nation and Planet Hollywood and they said, ‘We’ll make it work. You guys can still tour.’

“Hypothetically we could tour this new album for six weeks, then have two weeks off and come do Vegas, then six weeks back on tour and two weeks off – come back and do Vegas. It would be a lot of work, but it can be done.”

There may be half-naked Backstreet Boys

THIS IS NOT A DRILL. AJ is in killer shape right now and he might just want to show us. “You probably won’t see Kevin, Brian or Nick ever do that, but Howie and me, you just never know,” he teases. “Me especially, you never know. I could do it one night and not the next.”
