Battle of the Aussies

It’s the Battle of the Aussies as Brisbane wildlife warrior Bindi Irwin and partner Derek Hough take on Wagga Wagga’s Sharna Burgess and Nick in tonight’s Dancing with the Stars finale!

But behind the scenes, it’s all about love and support between the two front-running duos.

“He’s fantastic,” says Bindi, 17. “Nick is amazing because he’s done a lot of conservation work! He’s done a lot for our oceans and he’s a great guy, so we’ll be cheering him on.

“I’m cheering everybody on though, honestly. I think we’re all trying as hard as we can, so it’s about all being there for each other and supporting each other. Everyone has been so inspiring.”

The two couples will go up against Alek and Lindsay for the Mirror Ball trophy and Sharna, 30, says she’s thrilled to have a fellow Australian in the competition.

Comparing Bindi and Nick’s talents, she says Nick’s strength is that he has been performing his whole life, while Bindi has won over viewers’ hearts.

“Bindi is one of the most genuine people that I have come across in a very long time and that is so, so rare in this business,” says Sharna.
“I adore watching her grow and be herself and be introduced to this world of showbusiness. The country has been falling in love with her and that is her strength. “She is so full of life and ready to go out on that floor and give it her everything and that is such a beautiful thing to have. And we just love being around her because she gives you real energy.

“Obviously being Australian I have a lot of pride there when I see her doing great work and if there’s anybody that I could say, ‘Let’s be in the final together and if you take it, I’ll be okay with it,’ then it would be Bindi.”
